Benders acquires Volvo Car Group vehicle factory

2013-06-12

Benders Sverige AB, the country’s leading producer of roofing, landscaping and granite products, has acquired the Uddevalla complex where Volvo most recently manufactured its C70.

The complex is approximately 1.5 million m2, 100,000 m2 of this being indoor production premises. Family-owned Benders is acquiring the entire land area and all the associated property. The purchase ensures continued development and expansion for Benders in Sweden, where it manufactures its granite and concrete products. With 470 employees, the turnover of the Benders group is SEK 1.2 billion. Uddevalla’s siting brings Benders great advantages, not least as regards logistics. The complex is directly served by road, rail and harbour.

Ove Bender, MD, Benders Sverige AB, says: “We are very pleased that Volvo chose us as buyers and thus gave us the opportunity to set up in Uddevalla. Volvo has ensured that the facility is in very good condition and, with both own production and operations for external tenants, we hope to continue development of the complex. The site is unique and must be considered one of Sweden’s finest for industrial land. We intend to safeguard this legacy carefully for future generations.

“Benders purchase of Bohusläns Kooperativa Stenindustri in 2012 was the start of long-term investment in Swedish granite. We are now continuing this through the acquisition of Volvo’s Uddevalla factory where, amongst other things, we are planning a state-of-the-art facility for the processing and working up of granite.”
